The Mayor's Office of Cali indicated that four of the ten stations that are part of the recovery of the infrastructure of Cali's MIO transport system will be ready in the coming days. These are the Conquistadores, San Bosco, Meléndez and Univalle stations are 90% executed, and also announced the innovations they will have.

“In the case of the Puente del Comercio, we will have a technological innovation center, a digital laboratory, which will be financed by the Mayor's Office through Datic. In the case of Calipso station, we will intend to have a commercial area,” said Cali Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina.

“MIO stations are advancing their strengthening and reconstruction! In 92% there are works in the stations. The central stations will have a commercial area and community services,” said the mayor's office on Twitter.

Ospina also pointed out that “we have given ourselves the task of recovering these stations completely. In addition, the MIO stations will be diversified, we want them not only to be MIO stations, but to have other content. They're going to have offices in Emcali, technology services, commercial services areas. We want to fill the stations with content so that they have the opportunity to generate more jobs and passengers.”

The official said that the possibility of opening a nursery is being studied “to enable mothers to have their children while they go to work”.

It should be noted that the infrastructure of these stations was affected a year ago in the context of the national strike. “Having the stations in operation is important for the system, for example: the Meléndez station before March 2021 was mobilizing 5,045 average users working day, San Bosco 2,008 passengers and Conquistadores 1,036,” said Oscar Javier Ortiz Cuellar, president of Metro Cali, who stated that the goal is to deliver the works before the 30th of May.

In addition to this measure, the MIO Cable Tourist Route has around 600 graphic pieces distributed in the four stations of the aero suspension. Visitors can appreciate and enjoy attractions, dolls, exhibitions, gigantographs, decorative frames, paintings, murals and stained glass, among other pieces, which allow them to travel through time on axes such as transport, music, nature and the myths and legends of Cali and particularly of Comuna 20.

“Our purpose is to continue working in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and other allies to strengthen and promote this space that promotes not only the enterprises that are in the commune, but also places rich in cultural material,” said María José Cardona Castelblanco, Commercial and Service Director Customer of Metro Cali, MIO Cable.

It is noteworthy that this tour of transport, culture, music and stories of the city begins at the Cañaveralejo Terminal. This project is joined by the Autonomous University of the West and the Bibliotec Foundation, reflecting the social and symbolic interactions of Cali as a reference in three moments: past, present and future. This space brings together gigantographs of the Cali and MIO infrastructure, characters, murals and panels with the history of transport.

For her part, the Secretary of Tourism of Cali, Stefania Doglioni said that “the renewal of the MIO Cable Tourist Route is great news for Cali, as it is complemented by community narratives and this transport system is strengthened by offering a wonderful tourist experience. We continue to work as a team with the Ministry of Tourism and Metro Cali, to strengthen the processes of Comuna 20, with strategies that include all these routes, such as the 'Tourism to the Neighborhood' project.”

In these efforts, environment and nature also play a very important role in this tour of the MIO Cable Tourist Route. The Lleras Camargo station reflects the natural wealth that the city has, through gigantographs with photographs of birds such as hummingbirds, the taringa, and the red-headed bull that lead to awareness of environmental protection.
