Deputies of the Environment Committee endorsed the electricity reform of López Obrador

The only ones who saw the proposal viable were the parties related to the government; the opponents reiterated their opinion against it and rejected the inclusion of an initiative that considers electricity as a human right

This Monday, Mexican deputies from the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources spoke in favor of the electricity reform initiative, the controversial proposal of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which has generated controversy both inside and outside Mexican territory, Lawmakers assured that it is of an environmentally friendly proposal.

What is noteworthy is that the opinion was quite divided because, although the majority of the votes were reached to consider it as the opinion in general of the entire committee, the vote was 17 votes in favor against 14. The first ones were from the politicians of Morena (government), the PT and the PVEM. The second ones of the PRI, PAN, PRD, MC.

In particular, the PRI's main demand was the adherence to the voted proposal of an initiative by licensed MP Carolina Viggiano, who established that access to 'electricity be considered a human right.
