Lleras Park is one of the most important spaces for tourism in Medellín, so this year the municipal administration decided to transform it. The mayor's office announced a comprehensive intervention to improve 12,889 square meters of public space in which priority is given to pedestrian mobility, culture, green areas and spaces for sharing.

According to Daniel Quintero, what is expected is that this space will no longer be mostly night and can be used during the day. The above with the implementation of fairs and even spaces for restaurants.

In the development of the project, nearby roads will also be intervened to form a wider pedestrian circuit that allows you to explore the commercial area near Lleras and, in turn, connect with the main park of El Poblado.

“This is a work that for many years has been insistently demanded by the merchants and inhabitants of this sector of El Poblado,” said the Secretary of Infrastructure of Medellín, Natalia Urrego Arias.

“From the first day of administration we listened to them and started working to make it a reality. We are building a future and we want physical works to also promote a social recovery in this park that for decades has been a tourist reference in Medellín,” added the official.

Investment and execution of the work in the Lleras Park

The municipal administration reported that the investment for construction, improvement and maintenance of public space in Lleras Park is 10 billion pesos and resources are provided by the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area.

According to the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the work is progressing by 3% of execution and is expected to be ready by the end of 2022.

“This project will totally change the dynamics of Parque Lleras and this corridor of El Poblado. We are going to generate much more public space and safe platforms for us to walk the park and enjoy it, that is the commitment of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area”, said the entity's deputy director of projects, María Camila Salcedo Soto.

The new Parque Lleras will have an open-air theater to facilitate the cultural offer in the area. In addition, in accordance with the Ecocity promoted by the Mayor's Office of Medellín, 98 new trees and 16,000 smaller plants will be planted. This intervention directly benefits more than 134,000 people, according to the Quintero administration.

“We are very happy about the start of this great work that is going to be done in Parque Lleras. It is very important for our sector, and even for our city, to turn what has been presented in the Lleras Park upside down. With the beautiful spaces, with so much green, with so many areas for pedestrians, our task will be to promote healthy and responsible tourism,” said Cotelco Antioquia's executive director, Sandra Restrepo.
