Zacatecas Police Stopped: They Demand Direct Dialogue with David Monreal

Agents of the State Preventive Police of Zacatecas began a work stoppage on Thursday, March 31, seeking answers to their demands for better working conditions, in addition to demanding the resignation of the Secretary of Public Security (SSP), Adolfo Marín Marín, in addition to seeking direct dialogue with the governor David Monreal.

This is the second work stoppage within the corporation in a month, since two weeks ago the uniformed men demonstrated for the same reasons, since they assure that the conditions in which they work and the dangers they encounter in the entity have already exceeded what is tolerable.

After the integration of a dialogue table composed of five police officers and representatives of the SSP, both reached reparatory agreements, which were not complied with by the authorities, in addition to the fact that the uniformed members of the bureau and two other elements were unjustifiably dismissed from the security corporation.

Due to reprisals by senior security officials in Zacatecas, and the lack of attention to the protesters' demands, the uniformed men decided to break relations with the SSP authorities, including the head of the unit, and requested a direct dialogue with the state governor, David Monreal.

“We request the resignation of the Secretary of Public Security; we are requesting that the casualties of the gentlemen who harassed us be signed. We ask for the discharge and the gentlemen continue to control, they continue to harass the comrades outside their homes. We're not going to talk to anyone but the governor and have the governor come, give us his face and let him comply. We are not going to move, all our comrades are supporting us, it is an indefinite stoppage, if the governor does not respond to us today, we are not going to move,” the uniformed men told local media.

Likewise, they accused their regional superiors of carrying out suspicious activities, stating that they undertake trips to places controlled by organized crime, and in which there are no security corporations to supervise, which deepens the demand for their resignation.

Following the unemployed state police, the security authorities implemented federal security forces for preventive work, as local personnel are insufficient to carry out patrols in the entity. State authorities have not commented on this matter.

On March 20, elements of the State Preventive Police of Zacatecas held a work stoppage and demonstrated in the vicinity of the State Secretariat of Public Security for drug violence in the territory.

The main requirement of the uniformed was the formalization of benefits for their families in the event that they lose their lives while doing their jobs, among which is a “Monthly Risk Bonus”, as was read on some banners.

They also requested the renewal of the collective license to carry a weapon, which, they said, has been expired for approximately six months, a situation that prevents them from having a gun during their patrols. These requests were made due to the different attacks of which the police officers of this security corporation have been victims.

For his part, Governor David Monreal blamed the journalists for the violence in the entity: “I dare even say that there are some media that have become promoters of criminal organizations, fortunately, it seems to me that the least, but today they are the ones who broadcast, promote horror scenes,” said the president in press conference.
