The Villa San Pedro neighborhood of the city of Barranquilla was the scene of an event that, for the inhabitants and even the authorities, is considered as a movie, after in the early hours of this Monday, March 28, a taxi driver thwarted a robbery of which he would be the victim and ended up killing his assailants.

The ruffians pretended to be passengers, deceived the driver and tried to steal the money he had obtained during the night of that Monday. However, the victim managed to disarm them, snatched the gun with which they were threatening him and murdered them in alleged self-defense.

The events occurred in the southwest of the Atlantic capital, specifically on 96A Street with race 6B, where Kevin José Coronado and Luis Alberto Jiménez González lost their lives - as the thieves were identified - after their misdeeds.

After defending himself, the taxi driver left the bodies lying on the asphalt and started to flee. However, as documented by local media, he repented, went to the city's Immediate Action Unit (URI), confessed to firing the weapon against the subjects and made himself available to the authorities.

What's more, one of the barranquilleros prosecutors revealed that the driver handed over “the gun with which he says killed the two alleged thieves and also makes himself available to the authorities,” he told the BluRadio station.

For their part, several residents of the Villa San Pedro neighborhood told the local newspaper El Heraldo that they were not aware of the incident, until hours of the day, when the authorities arrived in that sector to lift the bodies that were in the middle of public roads.

The authorities launched an investigation into the event, which does not draw the inhabitants of this sector from astonishment. Moreover, it became known that the relatives of one of the murdered robbers assured the police, outside Medicina Legal, that they had no knowledge that he was a thief and that on Sunday he had gone out to play with a friend.

It is expected that in the coming days the Prosecutor's Office or the authorities will issue a statement on the fate of the taxi driver, who will have to undergo an investigation to determine whether, in fact, he acted in self-defense.

The Cundinamarca Prosecutor General's Office, in a joint work with the Sijín Judicial Police, managed to get a guarantee judge to issue an assurance measure in a prison center against David Caballero Núñez, alias David, who was accused of being responsible for the murder of police patrolman Pablo Enrique Vargas Gómez.

According to authorities, Pablo Enrique Vargas was reported missing on November 2, 2021, but his body was later found shot in the head, on the road that leads from the municipality of Mesitas del Colegio to Bogotá.

With the evidence collected, information obtained from human sources and the citizens' complaint, the uniformed members of the National Police followed up the alleged murderer David Caballero Núñez, alias David, who was initially reported in Tolima and later placed in the home of a relative in Barranquilla , department of the Atlantic, where he was finally captured.

The prisoner is in a prison center in La Mesa, where he faces 20 investigations into cases of armed theft of motorcycles.

On the other hand, on the Caribbean coast the authorities also managed to capture a person responsible for murdering a policeman, this criminal apparently belonged to the Los Rastrojos gang currently known as the Gulf Clan.
