The London stadium in Wembley will be the scene of a 'Finalissima' between the current European and South American champions, Italy and Argentina, next June 1, UEFA announced this Tuesday.
This match between the champions of the two most powerful confederations, UEFA and CONMEBOL, was announced in September and confirmed in December at a stadium in the British capital.
UEFA revealed on Tuesday that the chosen stage was Wembley, with a capacity for 86,000 spectators.
“This great match will give fans the opportunity to see the current champions of the two best football continents compete in the coveted CONMEBOL-UEFA Champions Cup,” announced the European confederation.
“Twenty-nine years after its last edition, the relaunch of this legendary football event is the result of the partnership between UEFA and CONMEBOL, and will serve as a catalyst for the global development of football, bringing together countries, continents and cultures, while demonstrating to fans around the world that football can be a force that unites us in turbulent times,” he added.
The last edition of this tournament was held in 1993, with Diego Maradona's win on penalties for Argentina over Denmark.
Tickets to watch the match live will go on sale on March 24 (starting at 12:00 GMT) with prices ranging from 25 to 99 pounds (between 32 and 131 dollars; between 30 and 119 euros).
