Ricardo Monreal Ávila, coordinator of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) bench in the Senate of the Republic, celebrated the inauguration of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which it classified as a benchmark for the anti-corruption policy of the Fourth Transformation.

Through an opinion column on his official website, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) explained that every new air hub represents a “halo of pride” among the population, so different governments have decided to name these places as a tribute to characters important to history.

He added that the airport in Paris was named after Charles de Gaulle, a former general who faced the Second World War; while the airport in New York was named after the latter's assassination when he served as president of the United States; as well as the one in Mexico City named after the latter's assassination when he served as president of the United States; as well as the one in Mexico City named after the latter's assassination Benedict of the Americas, Benito Juarez.

Faced with such historical details, the Zacatecan politician pointed out that it should be a source of pride that the new airport in the metropolitan area of Mexico City was named as Felipe Ángeles, because for a long time he was a forgotten character in the history of the country, especially at the time of the Mexican Revolution.

According to Monreal Ávila, Ángeles Ramírez “was a pure maderista, but he could not prevent the president who appointed him director of the Military College from being assassinated by Victoriano Huerta, who pejoratively called him 'Napoleoncito', because of his academic background”.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that Ángeles, along with Francisco Villa, was primarily responsible for defeating the “illegitimate government of the usurper Huerta.” Finally, he recalled that Angels was sentenced to death by a court martial in 1919, accusing him as a traitor to the homeland.

Faced with the memory of who Felipe Ángeles was, Ricardo Monreal explained that, in the same way, the opposition sectors have tried to “lynch” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) by fulfilling what he promised in the presidential campaign.

However, he pointed out that, despite these drawbacks, the country now has a new airport “functional, modern and built” without economic excesses or acts of corruption; therefore, he indicated that it will be in posterity that the relevance of the work in the country's development will be defined.

Finally, the former governor of Zacatecas declared that the inauguration of one of the 4Q mega-projects has vindicated the role of the State within the needs of citizens, as well as that of Felipe Ángeles in collective memory.

However, Monreal Ávila was not the only one who remembered the revolutionary general, since Andrés Manuel López Obrador recalled his career and even assured that Francisco Villa was the only one who listened. He also commented that when he made the decision to release the son of “El Chapo” in Culiacán, he did so thinking of a famous phrase by the aforementioned character, who he also described as “exceptional” ”.

“My General Felipe Ángeles allow me to introduce myself and welcome you, I am General Gustavo Vallejo, general resident engineer of the construction work of this international airport that bears his name, it is an honor to receive him and that it is you who by presidential mandate give identity to this megaproject”, is appreciated in the documentary A People's Work.
