Ukrainian minister asks MEP to consider Putin as a “war criminal”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov urged members of the European Parliament on Thursday to consider Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “war criminal” and urged the bloc to strengthen its support for Ukraine.

“It's not just a war, it's national terrorism. The regular army of invaders is conscientiously annihilating civilians.” Reznikov told MEPs in a video conference.

“I urge all members of the European Parliament to acknowledge that Putin is a war criminal, as he did in the United States,” he added.

In support of his request, Reznikov commented on the Russian attack on the port city of Mariupol and the bombing of the theater, which, according to the Ukrainian authorities, about 1,200 women and children were protecting.

The minister said that more than 400 schools, 110 hospitals and about 1,000 residential blocks were destroyed in just three weeks after Russia launched the attack across Ukraine.

Reznikov claimed that the Ukrainian army would defeat the Russian army, but urged Europe to provide more resources to obtain weapons.

“We will win, it's just a matter of what price the Ukrainian people will pay.” He said.

The minister called for financial assistance to allow Ukraine to obtain a large amount of equipment, including jet aircraft, armored vehicles, anti-tank vehicles and anti-aircraft systems.

The EU has already donated 500 million euros to provide weapons to Kiev, and there is a proposal to add another 500 million dollars.

In a speech with European legislators, Reznikov fiercely criticized Western countries for refusing to intervene directly to impose a no-fly zone on Ukraine.

“We will lose more and more lives, and there will be more money that European countries will pay later to help Ukraine rebuild itself,” he said.
