After being suspended from office by a judge, Sandra Cuevas Nieves, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, officially applied to the Mexico City Congress on Wednesday afternoon for 15 days for retirement.

The President of the Union “Go to Mexico” stated in a nine-page document that her request is based on articles 53, paragraphs A, paragraphs 1 and 8 of the Capital Political Constitution in relation to Article 65 of the Organic Law of the City Mayor.

In addition, he briefly stated that the person who will remain the head of the administrative department during this period will be José Guadalupe Medina Romero, who acts as secretary general of the government.

In this regard, Morena's technical adviser does not have the authority to make such a request, since it stated that “this request is not appropriate” because the official suspended his duties since March 14.

Sandra Cuevas points out that she did not send a message during the day, but shared a post on her Twitter account by former PRD politician and columnist Fernando Belaunzaran. “If Lopez Obrador and Claudia Shane Baum were allowed to steal the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, the office lost in last year's polls would steal the country in 2024, it's really serious.”

The suspension of her duties took place at a hearing attended by Cuevas on March 14 in the oral office located in the North Prison, where the mayor's lawyer requested the duplication of constitutional terms to define her legal status according to an investigation against her on suspicion of illegality: deprivation of liberty, injury, abuse of authority and discrimination against two elements of the CDMX assistant police.

Due to this situation, the judge imposed that he does not leave the country as a preventive measure and does not approach the victim.

It will be Thursday, March 17, when the hearing continues and the judge will impose new precautions and define whether or not to link Sandra Cuevas to the prosecution of the aforementioned crime.

For this reason, she risks leaving office five months after the protest after winning the candidate Dolores Padierna for Morena in a poll.

It is worth arguing that Sandra Cuevas is being prosecuted through the Attorney General's Office of Justice (FGJ) that this is an operation coordinated by CDMX Government Chief, Claudia Sheinbaum, and her Minister of Internal Affairs, Martí Batres.
