The National Action Party (PAN) called on President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) to cease the political persecution and harassment that his Government would be carrying out against political, media and social opposition personalities.

This was highlighted by the bench, with greater emphasis on its militants Ricardo Anaya, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca and Sandra Cuevas - the latter being the one currently in the eye of the hurricane due to the scandal that warranted the temporary suspension of her post as mayor of Cuauhtémoc, in Mexico City (CDMX).

In a statement, the blue and white party endorsed its support for the position of the European Parliament condemning the intimidation that the president acts against his opponents from the stand of the morning conferences: “It alludes, in particular, to populist rhetoric,” the organ ruled.

In this sense, the national leader, Marko Cortés Mendoza, added that the alleged attacks by the Chief Executive are due to his disagreement with “the truth about the murder of journalists and human rights defenders”: “A reality that he cannot continue to deny.”

On March 15, Mexico recorded the eighth journalist killed so far in 2022. Armando Linares, director of Monitor Michoacán, died after an armed attack in Zitácuaro, Michoacán - almost two months after his colleague, Roberto Toledo, suffered the same fate, in the same place.

This, again, reinforced the climate of violence against journalism, which, in addition, is characterized by high rates of impunity that reach up to 90%, according to official figures from the Ministry of the Interior itself (Segob).

In addition, the Federal Office has indicated that part of the killings have been linked to municipal authorities and another to organized crime. However, international organizations say that Andrés Manuel's disqualifications since the morning are also factors that perpetuate the bloody picture.

For that reason, the document mentions, is that Acción Nacional issued a proposal to classify harassment of journalists as a new crime. For his part, the PAN coordinator in the Senate, Julen Rementería, called for “introspection” to recognize the problem and, in this way, put an end to it.

Despite the demands, the President of the Republic has been firm in denying that any of the more than 50 murders of journalists recorded during his administration are part of a State crime.

Meanwhile, he also took the opportunity to ensure that his Government was not behind the trial against Cuevas and other members of his cabinet for the alleged crimes of robbery, abuse of authority and discrimination: “I have absolutely nothing to do with (...) It passes,” he said.

This, derived from the accusations that the activist of the National Action Party (PAN) launched against the Tabasqueño and the head of government of Mexico City (CDMX), Claudia Sheinbaum, whom she accused of “silencing uncomfortable people.”

“Here are two ways they use: one, disappearing them, taking their lives as happens with many journalists. Or two, they form you this type of situation and send you to prison,” he said before the Milenio chambers.
