The United States Mikaela Shiffrin won the fourth time in the overall qualifier for the Alpine Ski World Cup held in Courchevel, France on Thursday, and was on par with compatriot Lindsey Vaughn at the age of 27.
The skier from Vale (Colorado) won second place in the Courchevel supergiant behind Norway's Ragnhild Mowinkel, and definitely increased the difference from the second overall Slovak Petra Vlhova (Supergiant 17th place) in the Big Globe race. By the end of the season, he could no longer achieve 236 points ahead of the two races.
Having won the general rankings from 2017 to 2019, Shiffrin came from overcoming many difficult seasons and was chosen for this season (with zero medals in six races) a month after his disappointment at the Beijing Olympics.
This new Big Globe rewards the return to the first level.
Shiffrin holds two Olympic gold medals (slalom in 2014 and huge in 2018) and can win any sport. He currently has 120 podiums, and has achieved 74 victories with 216 appearances in World Cup matches.
After matching four big balloons of Bonn, he is now eager to reach or surpass the six records of Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll.
His career was suspended in 2020, and his father died in February of that year, leading to back problems and logistical complications related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
