Johana Bahamón announced the fifth version of the National Prison Theatre Festival

In 2022, people will be able to vote for their favorite work through the Acción Interna Foundation website

A new edition of the National Prison Theatre Festival will take place from Sunday, March 20, as recently confirmed by Johana Bahamón, director of the Acción Interna Foundation, which is leading this project that aims to generate spaces for reconciliation between the prison population and the the civilian population, as well as to highlight the importance of artistic creation in the process of re-socialization of persons deprived of their liberty.

For the first time in the history of the event, there will be the participation of an international guest, as each staging will be done by inmates from the Bogotá District prisons, San Gil, Villavicencio, Rodrigo Bastidas prison in Santa Marta, the Prison in Pasto and the Renacer Rehabilitation Center in the City of Panama.

“In this version, for the first time, we have an international guest: the Panama prison. And we are very happy that we can resume the custom of the winning play being presented at the Ibero-American Theater Festival in Bogotá.” , Johana Bahamón added.

For Jhon Moscoso, who is deprived of liberty in the San Gil prison and is part of the group participating in the Festival, “this is an opportunity to get to know and strengthen a talent that many have not managed to develop”.

Among the other attractions of the festival is that the works that will be presented there are directed by renowned national directors and with an important track record in working with vulnerable populations. While the qualifying jury will be made up of a group of experts and the public, who will be able to vote on the website of the Acción Interna foundation.

It should be recalled that this initiative, which has been taking place since 2014, also has the collaboration of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC), the Ministry of Justice and the School of Arts and Music of the Sergio Arboleda University.

The inauguration of the fifth National Prison Theatre Festival 2022 will take place virtually on March 19 at 10 in the morning through the Foundation's social networks. The opening ceremony will be presented by journalist Adriana Arango, who was deprived of liberty and today is an example of second chances for the prison and postponed population.
