Mexico City, 14 Mar In the midst of a vortex of opinions and a legal battle between the Fernández family and the media company TelevisaUnivision, the production “The Last King. El hijo del pueblo”, which follows the life of the late singer Vicente Fernández, premiered on the channel Las Estrellas this Monday night. The first chapter narrated the moments of anguish that the idol of the people experienced when he was notified of the kidnapping of his son, Vicente Fernández Jr., in 1998 when he was giving a concert. Before the broadcast began, Fernández's widow, Refugio Abarca “Doña Cuquita”, expressed through social networks her dissatisfaction with Televisa using her husband's story without his authorization, assuring that the singer in life never wanted to give the company the rights to his story and that he had already embarked on a legal battle so that the series would not be broadcast. “Vicente left, but I think there are people who are abusing his name, they did a series since October, they released it now that he is gone. If he were there, he would support me, if they think I'm alone, I'm not alone, I have my family, all the public that supports me and I believe a lot in the laws”, was the last statement that Cuquita issued on Monday morning, hours before the bioseries was released. For its part, TelevisaUnivision assured that it had not received any judicial notice preventing them from presenting their series, so the transmission was still going on. “The last king. The son of the people”, starring singer Pablo Montero, tells the story of the life of the so-called Charro de Huentitán, based on the unauthorized biography made by the Argentine writer and journalist Olga Wornat, titled as “The Last King”. This book was published days before Fernández's death, and shortly after that the singer's family made public statements against the work that the journalist had done. Soon after, Televisa announced that it would be carrying out a series produced by Juan Osorio based on that writing. But this was not the only audiovisual project that was being planned on the Charro de Huentitán. In September 2021, it was announced that Jaime Camil would star in the family-authorized version of the performer's life of “Volver”, which was being carried out by the production company Caracol Televisión y Netflix.
