Cd Hidalgo was the epicenter of a magnitude 4.0 earthquake that surprised the inhabitants of the state of Chiapas today at 14:01 (UTC 20:01) local time.

According to preliminary information, the earthquake occurred 123 km southwest of the city, and the depth was 14 km.

Due to recent events, the material damage and number of victims of the Tellurian movement in the state of Chiapas have not been quantified.

In the face of significant seismic activity, the National Disaster Prevention Center (Cenapred) recommends not falling into rumors or false news, but only to official sources such as the federal government, as well as local and state civil protection authorities.

After an earthquake, it is important to check for possible damage to your home, use your phone only in case of emergency, do not wear matches or candles until you have verified that there are no gas leaks, and be vigilant because there may be replicas of the earthquake.

In addition, you can take the following actions before an earthquake occurs: Prepare civil protection plans, organize evacuation drills, find safety zones at home, school or work, and prepare emergency backpacks.

In the event of an earthquake, stay calm and stay away from objects that may fall. If you are in a vehicle, you should park it and stay away from buildings, trees and poles. If you are on the coast, take refuge in high areas away from the beach

Earthquakes in Mexico

It

is worth noting that Mexico is constantly at risk of experiencing earthquakes of enormous magnitude, such as the earthquakes that occurred in September 1985 and 2017. Such a move caused misfortune, and despite being the most memorable, it is not the largest in the United States.

During the

colonial period, the strongest earthquake in the current history of Mexico occurred. It happened on March 28, 1787, and the epicenter was in Oaxaca, and the scale was 8.6. This movement was so violent that not only did the earth shake, but also caused a tsunami reaching 6 km inland.

According to data from the Instrumentation and Seismic Recording Center (Cires) carried out in 2009 on the earthquakes cited, there is a possibility that events of this magnitude or greater will be repeated. It is estimated that they will occur in the coming years.Since the epicenter is located in the so-called Guerrero violation, it is calculated on the coasts of Mexico and Central America. This region is characterized by the accumulation of a large amount of geological energy.

However, even low-scale earthquake events can cause significant destruction. In 1985 and 2017, Mexicans were surprised when the capital was disrupted by two earthquakes with less intensity than in 1787.

On September 19, 1985, an earthquake of 8.2 occurred in Guerrero with its epicenter. It was 07:19 local time (UTC 13:19) .At that time, it was thought that there would be no more earthquakes of such magnitude, but the incident occurred exactly 32 years later.

The year 2017 was recorded at 13.14 hours local time (18:30 UTC), with an epicenter on the border of the states of Puebla and Morelos, with a total of 369 deaths in the center.
