After attracting the case of the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero against Alejandra Cuevas and Laura Morán, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) decided to analyze the case in depth, but the former will remain in prison until then.
As a result, politicians, journalists and civil society attacked the SCJN, most of them personally addressing President Minister Arturo Zaldivar, who was involved in a scandal over the leak of calls from prosecutor Manero.
One of the strongest messages came from lawyer Martha Patricia Velázquez, who said that Mexico “lives in a dictatorship”, where its citizens do not enjoy their individual guarantees, even compared the situation in the country to that of Cuba or Venezuela.
“The law is applied by slogan and not in accordance with the law. We are already like in #Venezuela and #Cuba Tomorrow it can be you or me. #FueraGertzYZaldivar #AMLOCorrupto”, he wrote.

The debate was also joined by various politicians such as deputy Jorge Triana of the National Action Party (PAN), who said that Gertz Manero's leaked calls were not enough, since the ministers ratified “this perversity”.
“They recognize that Alejandra Cuevas was the victim of the prosecutor, but he will remain in prison. We have to wait for them to analyze the merits of the case,” he added through his official Twitter.
The former Secretary of Labour and Social Security for the six-year term of Felipe Calderón, Javier Lozano, added that it is a good answer if they want to get to the bottom of the matter, but the real question would be when will it be achieved?
“One more vote was enough for him to be released TODAY. Justice is hijacked in this country,” he wrote.

He also lashed out against Alejandro Gertz Manero and two ministers who voted in a negative way, thus denying freedom to the woman accused of the murder of the Mexican prosecutor's brother.
“We were all waiting for a good afternoon for justice. They're supposed to go to the bottom now. Deep down, they become assholes. ONE more vote was enough for the immediate release of #AlejandraCuevas. @ArturoZaldivarL and @lorettaortiza denied it. Gertz's accomplices. Miserable,” he wrote.
Mario Di Costanzo, former deputy and chairman of the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users, suspected that there is some hidden reason why President Minister Arturo Zaldivar acted in this way, demanding both his and the prosecutor's resignation.
“What does Gertz Manero @FGRMexico know about Minister Zaldivar @SCJN? Justice in our country is very worrying. The only way to ensure fairness and transparency is with the resignation of Gertz and Zaldivar,” he said.

As for the journalistic guild, it was Alejandro Hope, a media columnist assured that Arturo Zaldívar acted in a “cowardly” manner, because “he had the immediate release of Alejandra Cuevas in his hands and decided to kick the boat”.
Carlos Loret de Mola also entered the debate, who asked how long Alejandra Cuevas should wait in prison, even though ministers considered the case an abuse.
“If they wanted to release her today, they would have been able to do so. There was 1 vote missing. What is expected is that it will happen in a few days. Another thing would be a scandal,” he tweeted on his official social networks.

Finally, driver Leo Zuckerman considered the figure of pretrial detention as an unfair tool, since with it “many abuses of state power are committed with the policy of imprisoning people during their trial.”
“Formally they are innocent until proven otherwise and they still put them in prison,” he concluded.
