Sigulda (RWH) Bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich (GER) remains unbeaten in the BMW IBSF
World Cup 2020/2021 in the 2-man bob. After two victories on the opening weekend, the
Olympic Champion, World Champion and World Cup title holder also won the third race of the
season in Sigulda (LAT).
With push athlete Thorsten Margis, Friedrich set a new track record (49.31 seconds) in the
second run. The German duo thus relegated the Latvian local hero Oskars Kibermanis with
Matiss Miknis to second place (0.10 seconds behind). After the first run the Latvians, who also
remained below the old track record in both runs, were still ahead by two hundredths of a
second.
Third place in Sigulda went to Simon Friedli/Gregory Jones from Switzerland, the European
Championship silver medallists last winter. For Friedli it was the second 2-man bobsleigh
podium finish in the BMW IBSF World Cup after second place in February 2020, also in
Sigulda.
Oskars Melbardis (LAT), the 2014 and 2018 Olympic bronze medallist, finished seventh at his
first start in winter 2020/2021. His push athlete was Intars Dambis.
