
Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) player Elina Svitolina won’t represent her home country of Ukraine at next month’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers due to a back injury.
Ukraine is scheduled to face the United States April 15 and 16 in a Billie Jean King Cup qualifier in Asheville, North Carolina.

Svitolina, currently ranked 20th in the world, said on Twitter she reaggravated a back injury in her determination to get back on court to represent her country.
She lost in the openings rounds of tournaments in Miami and Indian Wells, California but reached the quarterfinals of the Monterrey Open in Mexico. She pledged to donate all of her prize money from that tournament to the Ukrainian army.

“It’s been an extremely difficult couple of months for me, not only mentally but physically,” she said on Twitter. “Now, my body can’t handle it anymore and I need to rest.”
Svitolina did not give a timeline for her absence, but said she will miss “some of my favorite tournaments in Europe.” The year’s second Grand Slam event begins May 22 in Paris.
