Germany was second with nine, followed by Austria with eight. /P>P>/P>P>The winter EYOF has been an incubator for several future Olympians including ski champions Anja Paerson of Sweden and Janica Kostelic of Croatia. /P>P>/P>P>Poor snowfall in Jaca led to the cancellation of snowboard cross and super G before the opening ceremony even started on Feb. 18. Both sports require especially deep snow for man-made slopes and obstacles./P>P>/P>P>The Jaca Coordination Commission revised the schedule for only one ski event on each day to minimize damage to the snow cover. P>/P>P>To make up for the cancellation of the inaugural snowboard cross championship, Jaca 2007 management quickly arranged a Parallel Slalom Special Race in which snowboarders compete on side-by-side alpine courses in an elimination tournament./P>P>/P>P>Skiers in the remaining events faced a few icy patches and moments of reduced visibility during the Games, but conditions were good overall. /P>P>/P>P>The EYOF, an initiative of the European Olympic committees, comes in both a winter and summer edition, in every odd-numbered year. The 2007 summer EYOF will happen in Belgrade, Serbia in July. Slask, Poland will host the 2009 winter EYOF. /P>P>/P>P>The European Olympic Committees first organized the festival in 1991, under the presidency of Jacques Rogge, now president of the International Olympic Committee./P>P>/P>P>B>/B>/P>
