A phone designed just for BOCOG was part of the June 6 launch of Samsung's marketing for the 2008 Games.
Samsung revealed three new phone designs, one of which is for BOCOG officials. The other two will be marketed in partnership with China Mobile.
Gymnastics champion Liu Xuan was named Samsung's Olympic Ambassador. China's first balance beam gold medalist will be the face of Samsung's Games marketing in the country.
Samsung also released its Games branding. Known as the Samsung Olympic Games Visual Identity System, the logos will also feature in Samsung marketing for the Games and the torch relay.
BOCOG secretary general Wang Wei and president and CEO of Samsung China Keun-Hee Park were among the officials and executives at the launch at Beijing's Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
The launch continues online at the new website for Samsung's Olympic project, www.samsung.com.cn/beijing2008.
Samsung became a TOP Olympic partner in 1997 and has signed renewal agreements through 2016.
Coke Announces Water Conservation Campaign
The Coca-Cola company will partner with the World Wildlife Fund in a $20 million project to conserve seven rivers throughout the world.
“Essentially the pledge is to return every, every drop we use back to nature," said Coke CEO E. Neville Isdell at the program announcement on June 5.
Coke uses 76 billion gallons of water annually to make its bottled drinks.
Eventually the company plans to set water reduction targets for its suppliers.
“For every liter of Coke, just the sugar in it requires between 175 and 250 liters of water. This is the big issue,” Isdell said.
The campaign was announced at the WWF's annual meeting, held this year in Beijing.
Coke has been a sponsor of the Olympic Games since 1928.
In other Coke news, the company's COO Muhtar Kent was officially named to the Special Olympics' International board of directors on June 5.
