The centerpiece of Sydney Olympic Park will be known as ANZ Stadium from January 2008, as the Melbourne-based bank buys naming rights in a $27 million deal.

The venue, known as Stadium Australia during the Games, and as Telstra Stadium afterwards, had several suitors for its naming rights.

Telstra’s contract with owners Stadium Australia Group has two years of life left, but the telecoms company wants to change its marketing direction.

“We need to re-prioritize our marketing investments to enable us to communicate in greater detail all that Telstra is making possible for Sydney and all of Australia,” says company sponsorship executive Bill Obermeier.

SAG is getting a better deal after the amicable split – ANZ is paying 50 percent more for the stadium name, according to Australia media.

The deal – Australia’s biggest-ever stadium naming contract – is good for seven years.

Eastman Kodak heads to the links in a new partnership with the Professional Golf Assocation tour in the U.S. The multimillion dollar deal begins in 2008, just as Kodak winds up its century-long partnership with the Olympic Games.

“As Kodak has transformed into a new company, our marketing strategy has also evolved,” says Kodak chief business development officer and vice president Jeffrey Hayzlett.

Coca-Cola has become the exclusive beverage supplier at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The seventh global partner of the Expo may also build a pavilion there, Chinese media report.

McDonalds sales rose again in November, making 55 straight months of moving more food and drinks. The growth is fuelled by the popularity of stronger coffee in the U.S., burgers and sandwiches in Europe and breakfast foods in China, among other offerings.

GE expects profits of $2.42 per share next year, according to an announcement by chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt this week. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expected $2.49.

Atos Origin will sell its Italian operations to Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, if European antitrust officials approve. The two companies announced the deal, worth $65 million,on Dec. 11.

Trek Bicycle Corporation will be the official bike supplier to Team Astana as of Jan. 1. The company’s pro presence was put into question when Team Discovery – Trek’s partner of ten years – was dissolved in 2007. Trek follows Discovery director Johan Bruyneel and riders Alberto Contrador and Levi Leipheimer to the Kazakh team.

Swiss fencing is joining the Unlimited Sports Team, a group of sportspeople sponsored by Dutch materials and life science company DSM. The company plans to further internationalize its roster in the coming months. Partnering with sports is a “fantastic platform to show the world what we are capable of at DSM in the fields of nutrition and performance materials,” says DSM deputy chairman Jan Zuidam. The company is also a partner of the Netherlands NOC.

Castellon’s Villareal FC has formalized a sponsorship program with seven young athletes from the Spanish province tipped to earn a berth at the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics.

Infront Sports & Media is the exclusive marketing partner of the Swiss Ski Federation, under a new deal announced Dec. 14. Under the deal, Infront will handle marketing of the International Ski Federation Alpine and Ski Jump World Cups held in Switzerland.
