A new section dedicated to the unique project was launched on the official Sochi 2014 website (www.sochi2014.com). Russian Sochi 2014 House will be the official headquarters of the Russian delegation in Vancouver.
Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said: “As well as being a memorable event for everyone, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be special for Sochi 2014 as it assumes the mantle of next Host City for the Winter Games. In keeping with every aspect of Russia’s first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Russian Sochi 2014 House will serve as a gateway to the future, into 2014, the city of Sochi, the Krasnodar Region and Russia.”
Russian Sochi 2014 House is situated in the inspired setting of the Museum of Science (Science World) on the Gulf Coast of Vancouver, in close proximity to the main Olympic and Paralympic venues for the 2010 Winter Games. Among these are BC Place Stadium, which will stage the opening and closing ceremonies, GM Place Stadium, which will host ice hockey, the Olympic Village and the International Press Center.
The doors of Russian Sochi 2014 House open from February 11 – 28, 2010 and welcomes anyone wanting to join Russia’s celebration of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. It will bring together well-known athletes, sports fans, journalists and officials from around the world, combining insights into a new and modern Russia with an experience of Russian tradition and heritage.
Exhibition halls, as well as booths providing information on both Sochi 2014 and the Krasnodar Region will help familiarize guests with the unique setting for the 2014 Winter Games. A cultural program, including legendary taste of Russia’s famous cuisine, performances by renowned artists from both Canada and Russia, and visitors from across the globe will create an unforgettable festive atmosphere with a unique Russian flavour.
The Press Center will host official Russian delegation events as well as meetings with athletes and guests of the Games. Additionally, fully equipped work areas will be available to accredited Sochi World Media.
