Approximately 150 children from Rio de Janeiro public schools will visit the Maracanã Stadium on Thursday at 9 am with the two mascots of the Rio 2016 Games. The initiative is part of the Transforma Education Programme of the Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which held a photo contest among municipal schools.
In addition to interacting with the mascots, the children can vote for their favorite names for the Olympic and Paralympic mascots - Oba/Eba, Tiba Tuque/Esquindim and Vinicius/Tom respectively. Voting runs until 14 December.
The challenge proposed to the students was to introduce to the mascots interesting places in the city related to the children’s neighborhoods. The three most voted schools on the web, located in Jardim America, Inhaúma and Ilha do Governador, won a guided visit to the football temple of Brazil and stage of the Games opening and closing ceremonies.
