Anne Adams-King has been appointed to the new post of Regional Manager of Pentathlon GB, the national governing body for the Olympic sport of modern pentathlon.
Anne, a former Olympic swimmer, joins Pentathlon GB from the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) where she was the Director of English Programmes.
She brings a wealth of experience managing teams of people and working in a number sporting environments that will clearly assist Pentathlon GB’s drive to strengthen its regional presence and increase grass roots participation in the sport.
Jon Austin, Pentathlon GB Chief Executive, said: "We’re extremely fortunate to have secured the services of someone of Anne's experience.
"The post of Regional Manager is a new and very important one for Pentathlon GB. We are looking to Anne to lead our regional team to establish a consistent and effective national network that best utilises the skills, commitment and enthusiasm we know exists in many areas of the country."
Anne said: "I am excited at the prospect of joining Pentathlon GB as Regional Manager.
"Whilst I appreciate the challenges that lie ahead, I look forward to applying my wide range of experience to build a successful team," she added. "This is a significant period for British sport, I want to play my part to make the most of the opportunity by creating sustainability for Pentathlon GB post London and greater connection across the organisation."
Anne competed as an international swimmer at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. She began her coaching career as a swimming coach in Wales, followed by a spell as a Coach and Development Officer in Hounslow, West London, before moving into broader sports development.
She joined the Sports Council for Wales in 1990, initially in local development, before taking a lead national role in managing relationships and services with national governing bodies.
Her most notable achievement during this period was to introduce and establish an elite athlete programme approach by a number of sports in Wales to align with the UK Sport funded World Class Programmes.
In 2004 Anne took up post as Director of English Programmes for the ASA covering five key strategic areas – learn to swim, health & participation, talent development, workforce development and facilities. During this period Anne led and was involved in a number of national initiatives including the implementation of elements of the UK Coaching Framework to ensure a consistent and high quality delivery of swim programmes across the country.
