Glasgow 2014 has appointed Colin Hood, the Chief Operating Officer at Scottish and Southern Energy, to its Board. He is the Organising Committee’s fourth and final independent Non Executive appointment and will take up his new position on 1 September.

Colin brings with him significant experience of running what is the second largest power company in the UK and the largest industrial company in Scotland.

A born-and-bred Glaswegian, Colin is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and holds a Masters Degree in Power System Management from Strathclyde University. He has also worked closely with some of Glasgow 2014’s Games Partners, Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government.

Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith said:

"Colin is a very experienced operator and has handled everything from major construction projects and logistics to functions such as marketing, call centres and Human Resources.

"I believe he is an excellent addition to the Board at a critical time for Glasgow 2014, especially as he will have the time to devote to mentoring our very dedicated team when he retires from SSE in October this year."

Non-Executive Director Colin Hood said:

"I’m delighted to have been appointed to the Board in this prestigious position, to champion Glasgow and the Games and ensure a smooth and timely delivery.

"Born and bred in Govan, I can see the potential power of the Games to have a wide reaching, positive and lasting impact upon Glasgow and Scotland. I will work very closely with Lord Smith and the team to ensure we will deliver an outstanding Games of which we can all be proud."

In addition to his responsibilities at Glasgow 2014, Colin will continue to hold Non Executive Director positions at First Group, Southern Water and High Speed 1 - the organisation that owns the assets of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and develops and maintains its infrastructure.

He will also remain Chairman of Technology and Innovation Centre at Strathclyde University and Chairman of the Energy Skills Committee.
