• Decision underscores ecological commitment

• Concept provides foundation for Bid book

Munich, 26 March, 2010 – Munich’s Bid to stage an environmentally positive and sustainable Olympic Winter Games in 2018 has been reinforced by the approval and endorsement of the draft environmental and sustainability concept.

The Munich bid is founded on solid ecological principles and members of the Bid Committee’s Technical Commission for the Environment were unanimous in their approval of a concept which prioritises protection of nature, climate protection, development of sustainable sports and regional development and sustainable education programmes.

Approval of the concept is a key milestone in the development of the Munich bid and underpins the overall concept.

Work to develop the approved draft concept will continue ahead of the unveiling of the full and detailed plans at a press conference in early June.

Bernard Schwank, Managing Director of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee was delighted by the decision.

"We have now laid the foundations for an eco-friendly, sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Winter Gamers in Munich. I would like to thank members of the Technical Commission for the Environment for their constructive work on the concept," he said.
