London Mascot Coming
London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe says the mascot for the London Olympics is coming within a few weeks. Coe did not divulge much more in his report Tuesday to the general assembly of Association of Summer Olympic International Sports Federations. The unveiling is expected in mid-May.
ASOIF met in Dubai on the sidelines of the SportAccord Convention in Dubai.
In other comments to the federations Coe said priorities for the next year concentrate on five key areas: delivery of venues on time and budget; building a fan club, not just in the UK, but worldwide; building powerful partnerships, particularly with the Ifs; Continued integration in planning of Paralympic Games with Olympic Games; balancing the budget.
One Million Register for Tickets
One million people have signed up for tickets to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
LOCOG made the announcement Tuesday, just one month after ticket registration opened. A total of 8 million tickets for the 2012 Games will be sold. Ticket sales begin in 2010.
"We are thrilled by the level of interest in our Sign Up program" said LOCOG chair Sebastian Coe.
"What has been really interesting is that there has been significant interest across all Olympic and Paralympic sports."
Around 600,000 of all ticket registrants signed up for Olympic tickets.
"It should come as no surprise that the British public is so enthused by the prospect of world class sport coming to these shores, but it is pleasing to see that some of the lesser-known Olympic and Paralympic sports are also set to be well supported" Coe said.
"I would urge people to continue to sign up and ensure they are in the front row for information between now and 2012."
Ninety six percent of the registration has come from Britain. LOCOG has not advertised the registration program internationally.
