(ATR)The city of Baku is still celebrating the success of the inaugural European Games.

Some 15,000 volunteers and Azeri athletes from Baku 2015 participated in a parade on Sunday under the slogan, "We wrote history! We became history!"

The parade marched through Baku, ending the day's festivities with a concert near Baku's iconic Clock Tower, according to Azeri news outlets.

The event, hosted by the Azeri Ministry of Youth and Sport and Baku 2015 organizers, marks two weeks since Baku concluded its tenure as organizers of the first edition of the European Games.

The Gamestook place June 12-28.

Despite lackluster attendance for select events and a few ticketing issues, many sports leaders who spoke with Around the Ringsjudged the games a success.

Patrick Hickey, president of the European Olympic Committees, spoke with ATR Editor Ed Hula just hours before closing ceremony of Baku 2015 last month.

Hickey says the experience convinces him that the Azerbaijan capital city has what it takes to launch a competitive bid for the Olympics again.

Baku was unsuccessful in its attempts to bid for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.

The EOC is still searching for a host for the next edition of the European Games, slated for 2019.
