(ATR) The International Cycling Union is finished with a two-year review of its constitution.

Changes to the constitution include the introduction of a three-term limit for the UCI president, increasing the number of African Confederation votes to nine for greater equality as well as the reinforcement of the ethics commission with members outside of the UCI administration.

The UCI voted in favor of the constitutional revisions at the 185th UCI Congress held in Doha, Qatar during the 2016 UCI Road Cycling World Championships.

"Today marks another important step forward for the governance of the UCI," said UCI president Brian Cookson. "It is in line with international best practice and will help to reinforce the UCI's credibility within the international sports community, as well as with all our stakeholders."

The congress also voted to add the countries of Dominica, Niger and Tajikistan as official UCI members, taking its total membership to 187 National Federations.

Triathlon Welcomes New Athletes’ Committee

The International Triathlon Union confirmed the federation’s next Athletes' Committee that will serve for two years.

The 10-member committee consisting of five men and five women will be liaisons between their fellow athletes, the ITU staff and executive board.

Three of the 10 members – Ai Ueda, Jessica Harrison and Clare Cunningham – are serving their second term on the committee. They are joined by first-timers Rachel Klamer, Lisa Norden, Yannick Bourseaux, Jonathan Goerlach, Shen-Yen Hsieh, Francisco Serrano and Tamás Tóth.

Paratriathletes Cunningham, Bourseaux and Goerlach represent the Paralympians while the remaining seven represent the Olympians. The 10 athletes are from nine countries.

"Athletes have been an integral part of the decision-making process since ITU was founded nearly 30 years ago," said ITU president Marisol Casado. "I’m very pleased to see a diverse range of athletes on the committee, with a wide breadth of experience. I look forward to working with them to make triathlon even better."
