The Bemax Arena in Podgorica (Montenegro) was the setting that hosted one of the most unusual sporting episodes of recent days after the referee Stefan Vukovic knelt in the middle of the court to ask his girlfriend Violeta Lazarevic to marry him in the middle of the women's basketball tournament.
The romantic scene took place in the final leg of the second leg between Violeta's team, ZKK Buducnost Bemax, and ZKK Podgorica of the Montenegrin women's league. There, the referee waited for his girlfriend to prepare to throw a direct free kick and at that moment he stopped her and knelt before her to the surprise of everyone present at the venue.
Viki's joy was doubly because after saying yes, and after the final whistle, his team won the victory and won the fourteenth national title.
“I can't even describe how I feel. It was all sudden — completely unexpected. . In any case, I don't need to emphasize how happy I am,” the 24-year-old assured Serbian half Sportfem.
In the images that traveled the world, it was possible to see the moment when Stefan knelt before number 19 in a shower of applause. The referee stood up and hugged Viki, still stunned by what was happening. After crossing a few words, Stefan ended up putting the ring on it and the final scene perfectly described the emotion that was felt in the atmosphere: in the middle of the final, the players of both teams and the referees merged into an embrace.
“I really had no idea. Stefan even concealed that he would referee the party, he didn't tell me anything. I was angry with him for that too...”, the ZKK Pivot Buducnost Bemax later explained with laughter.
“The day before was exactly four years of our relationship. It was expected somewhere in the near future, but not so, in this place and at this time,” added a totally surprised Violet.
Finally, when asked about when the future wedding would be, the player explained: “We'll see, everything is still fresh. When I was younger, I dreamed, like all girls, of fairytale and big weddings, and now I would like it to be very intimate, with the closest ones... I hope to convince Stefan to do so.”
With regard to the purely sporting issue, ZKK Buducnost Bemax won the first leg 74-40 and reached the final match with the result in their favor. They ended up winning 70-51 with a great performance by Maja Bigovic (15 points and 5 rebounds) and Violenta Lazarevic herself, with 12 points.
