Football made them friends and former footballer Adolfo el 'Tren' Valencia recalled several anecdotes experienced when he played with Freddy Rincón on the Colombia National Team.
In addition, the 'Train' recalled when the 'Colossus' scored the goal for Germany in the 1990 World Cup in Italy, he was in Bonaventura.
In the same way, Valencia revealed some situations that marked Freddy Rincón's sports career.
Freddy Rincón began his career as a professional at Atlético Buenaventura, however, he was observed by Independiente Santa Fe in 1986, who decided to take him to the Colombian capital and gave him the opportunity to make his professional debut. That same year he made his debut against Junior de Barranquilla with coach Jorge Luis Pinto and scored two goals in his first match. He was one of the leaders of the team that was crowned champion of the Copa Colombia in 1989.
In '89 he decided to sign with América de Cali, a team that was then led by Gabriel Ocho Uribe. In a short time he consolidated himself as one of the best players in the squad and quickly stood out for his enormous physical potential. He was champion in 1990 and 1992, and also played the semifinal of the Copa Libertadores de América against Newells' Old Boys, falling from the penalty shootout.
His big moment at América de Cali allowed him to go to play abroad, Palmeiras, who was led by Vanderlei Luxemburg, decided to bet on the young Colombian player. In the Brazilian club he won the Paulista and Brasileirao championships in 1994. He played a total of 28 matches and scored 12 goals, which caused an Italian club to notice him.
Napoli, one of the most representative clubs of Italian football at that time, bet on the Colombian player and he did not disappoint. In a single season, he played 28 games and scored seven goals. The Colossus did not need to adapt to European football and on the contrary, from the very first moments he demonstrated his enormous qualities with the ball.
Then, one of the most important clubs in the world set its eyes on him: Real Madrid. The Spanish team won the signing of the Colombian in August 1995 for four million euros. Despite the enormous expectation generated by this signing, Rincón did not adapt to the team, lost prominence and did not stand out in the squad. After 21 games, he left Madrid without having scored a single goal.
After playing in Europe, he returned to South America. Palmeiras, a team that saw it shine a few years ago, gave it the opportunity again. The Colombian did not disappoint on his return to Brazil, played 17 games and scored seven goals in 1996. The Colombian resumed his good moment and that allowed him to remain in the elite. In 1997 Corinthians became interested in the Colombian and signed him as one of the great reinforcements of the season.
In Corinthians he made history, became one of the team's captains and won the Paulista and Brasileirao championships in 1998 and 1999. In 2000, he led the Brazilian team to become the first champion of the Club World Cup after beating Vasco da Gama in the final. In the Timao he is considered an idol.
In 2000 he signed with Santos, played 20 games and scored three goals. A year later his signing with Cruzeiro was confirmed, however, he only played 16 games and scored one goal. Three years later and after having stopped playing for three years, he returned to Corinthians, a team with which he ended his career. It should be noted that in 2012 and at the age of 46 he wanted to play again for América de Cali, but this was not possible and he only played a friendly match with San Martín from Peru.
