The traffic accident suffered by Freddy Rincón during the early hours of Monday raised concerns in different parts of the world. One of those who gave him a few words was Oscar Ruggeri, rival of the historic former Colombian footballer for much of his career. The detail is that El Cabezón learned on the air of the serious event that had affected the health of his colleague, who is being hospitalized after a bus hit the private vehicle in which he was traveling through the streets of the city of Cali.
The driver Sebastián Vignolo was talking with the former defender when he recalled the delicate event that Rincón is going through: “Oh, stop Oscar, sorry. It came to my mind. I greet the family of Freddy Rincón who had a traffic accident. It's serious. When I saw the news, I remembered him as a player,” the Pollo sent his message. El Cabezón could not hide his surprise at the news: “Is he serious?” , he consulted. “What a litter of Colombians,” he added.
Rincón and Ruggeri were central players in one of the most remembered matches at the national team level in South America when Colombia thrashed Argentina 5-0 at the Monumental Stadium in 1993 during the World Cup Qualifiers. That day, Freddy scored two goals to a defense that had Cabezón as its central pillar. In addition, although they did not share a roster, both accumulated steps for Real Madrid: the Argentine remained in the 1989-90 season and the Colombian landed during 96-96.
The concern for Rincón's health is growing after the fifth medical report issued by the Imbacano Clinic, which has the former player under control of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “With the prior authorization of the relatives, it is allowed to report that Freddy Rincón's condition remains deeply critical. Follow-up, diagnostic tests, radiological studies and the clinical condition do not show a favorable evolution,” said Laureano Quintero, medical director of the hospital.
“As we announced from the outset, their condition and criticality are extreme. The forecast is still very reserved. We will continue with all relevant measures and it must be clear that developments are not favourable,” he added at a press conference. To close, caution was asked with the information that is being handled about the state of health of the former footballer: “It is essential for us to ask everyone to understand that the only official source of what is really happening is these statements. Any other information is only causing pain in their families.”
On the other hand, the police investigation of the accident continues to progress and the name of Jorge Eduardo Muñoz Beltrán came to light as the driver of the bus that hit with the Ford 4x4 truck in which Rincón was driving. The man in question revealed in a chat with Tropicana Cali radio that he is currently waiting for the evolution of wounds on one of his legs in order to be operated on at the Vallesalud Clinic. In addition, he told his version of events: “The traffic light was green, in fact, I had started when the other one was red, the previous one. That's fifth with 27, I think.”
Muñoz admitted that the speed at which his bus was going at the time of the accident was normal for the exclusive lane of MINE and explained that he did not know who the injured person in the other vehicle was until he was admitted.
