It was carried out by Pew Research based on data from the 2020 census. They concluded that women earn more in the first years of employment, but in the long term men regain greater monetary recognition

In the United States, as in most parts of the world, for every dollar a man earns, women earn 75 cents. The phenomenon has been the subject of debate and overcoming it is a promise of a campaign. For the first time, a study indicates that the trend would begin to reverse.

According to a study conducted by the Pew research institute that analyzed data from the 2020 census, in 22 major cities in the United States, women under 30 earn as much or more than their male colleagues. New York and the city of Washington D.C. are among the urban centers where the phenomenon was observed. These are first jobs for people who have just graduated from college or even, before having a university degree.

Although it is a good indication, the same report indicates that the situation of equality or even higher income for women occurs in the first working years, and that over time, men tend to earn more.

According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, for every dollar a man earns in the country, women in 2022 earn 83 cents (a slight improvement than in previous years). Although if you take data from 2020, women earned 77 cents on every dollar.

As in other respects, the income disparity is greater among women of color (African-Americans, Latinas and other minorities). According to the study, the phenomenon occurs because these women tend to have the largest number of minimum income jobs, compared to other ethnic groups.

President Joe Biden spoke about this in the campaign and, once at the White House, established the gender policy council to promote equality between men and women. Within the council, there is an adviser to the president who focuses on developing aid policies to eliminate the differences experienced by African-American, Latina and Indigenous women.

Also earlier this year, the White House announced its goal of eliminating the income gap between men and women who work for the federal government, either as employees or contractors. As part of the measure, the president signed a decree prohibiting federal employers from asking a person's payment history before hiring them. The objective of this measure is that if a woman had been earning less money, this should not be used as a pretext to offer her a lower salary.

“Transparency in payments creates accountability, and accountability is what leads us to progress. We will create a fairer, more efficient and more egalitarian economy,” said Vice President Kamala Harris about Biden's executive order.
