Next Sunday, March 27, the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education (ICFES) will hold Saber 11 tests for final grade students studying in calendar B schools. On the same day, the Academic Baccalaureate Validation exams will also be held.

More than 88,000 people from all over the country, including 914 participants with disabilities and more than 1,000 Venezuelans, will take the face-to-face test in 231 places in 90 municipalities. In addition, another 16,000 ninth and tenth grade students will present the Pre-Saber, a voluntary test of preparation for Knowledge 11, in person or online.

The test is used to measure the educational level of schools and municipalities in the country. With the information that Icfes takes that day, decisions can be made to improve collectively. In addition, some universities and the State itself offer scholarships or guarantee admissions to successful students.

According to Mónica Ospina Londoño, director general of Icfes, it is in the interest of the entity that people who present the state tests have tools to familiarize themselves with them before the big day. After all, a good result on the exam can facilitate access to higher education.

For those who have more enthusiasm than resources for a Pre-Saber course, Icfes put together a series of free and easily accessible grants. They called it a Toolbox and it's available at icfes.gov.co.

For example, an application called 'The Icfes has a preicfes' was enabled, which consists of a mock test that adapts to the students' response abilities. In addition, there are audiovisual material and example booklets — with questions, explained answers and tips — to learn about the areas being evaluated: critical reading, mathematics, social and citizenship, natural sciences and English

There is also a section that explains in detail how the exam measures competencies in various subjects and how the results should be interpreted.

This test will be face-to-face but it will maintain all biosafety measures. Although the vaccination card will not be requested, permanent use of masks and hand washing will be required before and after the exam.

In addition, it is important that you bring your own number 2 pencil, eraser and sharpener, because due to hygiene you will not be able to share it with another person; if you can, carry spare parts. It is also necessary to bring your identity card, citizenship card or the document you have if you are Venezuelan.

The test is done on a single day with two segments, morning and afternoon. You'll have some time to eat. It is recommended that you bring food or money to buy a lunch; however, you will have to leave it away from you while you take the test. Preferably do not carry any electronic device; avoid an annulment due to fraud.

It is very important that you calculate your route before you arrive, because transport services in some cities run half-way on Sundays. The test starts at seven in the morning and you must arrive fifteen minutes early to find your salon and be assigned to your position. Once the trial starts, you will not be able to enter.
