San Juan, 24 Mar Puerto Rican reggaeton player Daddy Yankee says goodbye to his followers with the release this Thursday of his latest album, “Legendaddy”, a work of 19 songs with great collaborations with which the Latin music legend says goodbye to a 32-year career. Daddy Yankee, who took the urban genre to another level, announced last Sunday his retirement from music, a seemingly definitive goodbye that deserved a farewell with an album that arrives today with “Legendaddy”, his final studio work, now on all platforms. The 45-year-old Puerto Rican, who struck the blow of his life with “Gasoline” in 2004, says goodbye with a job in which he shows what his style has been all these years, an album in which he wanted to accompany the great figures of the time of urban music. The self-proclaimed “boss” recruits figures such as Bad Bunny, Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro or the Cuban Pitbull for his seventh and is expected to be the most important album of his career. He is not accompanied in this farewell by Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi, with whom he made history in 2017 with “Despacito”, a song in which he left his emblematic reggaeton, a rhythm with which since the nineties of last century became a world reference that placed Puerto Rico on the international music scene. SEVENTH ALBUM “Legendaddy” is the seventh studio album of his career, which hits the streets under the record label El Cartel Records and with the distribution of Universal Music Group. Produced by Daddy Yankee himself and the Dominican duo Luny Tunes, among others, “Legendaddy” is a well-thought-out work by the artist that includes 19 songs that try to review his long career. Opened with the song “Legendaddy”, Daddy Yankee's final album delves into the urban genre through 19 songs with titles such as “Champion”, “Remix”, “Pasatimo”, “Rumbaton” or “X Last Time”. The list of songs includes the titles “Forever”, “One Quitao and Another Post”, “Trick”, “The Abuser of the Abuser”, “Enchuletia'o”, “Water”, “Zone of Perreo”, “Hot”, “The Wave”, “Bombon”, “The King of the Imperfect”, “Odd” and “Bloke”. Throughout all these songs, Daddy Yankee tries to remember his legacy in urban rhythm, although he varies from one theme to another, going into all the musical styles he has played in his career, in which he even dared salsa with Marc Anthony. A 32-YEAR CAREER “I will say goodbye celebrating these 32 years of experience with this new collector's piece. I'm going to give you all the styles that have defined me, in a single production,” said the artist when announcing the album. Among the most powerful songs on “Legendaddy” stands out “Pasatiempo” with the collaboration of Myke Towers, in which the two artists put the best of their repertoire to bring out a great song. “X Última vez” is another of the outstanding songs on the album, a meeting with Bad Bunny in which he returns the collaboration they did in 2017 on the song “Vuelve”. “Forever” is the song chosen to sing with Panamanian director Sech, in which the two artists clearly connect. Daddy Yankee goes solo into “Legendaddy” with “The Wave” and “Enchuletia'o”, two songs closely connected with the most current urban music. “Rumbaton” and “The Abuser of the Abuser” are two other solo themes of the Puerto Rican in which he feels the tropical influence of his native island with a more Latin rhythm. With “Bombon” he delves into the musical universe of Panamanian rapper El Alfa El Jefe, a collaboration that highlights his commitment to the most urban sound. SOLD 30 MILLION RECORDS The singer sold more than 30 million albums throughout his career, highlighting his historic 2004 “Gasoline”, which was a before and after of the urban genre. The album “Barrio Fino: En Directo”, the third, from 2004, was also a reference in Daddy Yankee's career, until the arrival of “Despacito” in 2017 with his compatriot Luis Fonsi, who managed to rise number 1 in more than 80 countries and become the song with the most views on YouTube to date. The artist said at his farewell that his followers have been “the greatest treasure” he can have in his career. Daddy Yankee started his musical career with the album “Playero 34", by music producer DJ Playero, where for the first time the word reggaeton or reggaeton was heard.
