A group of doctors attached to the Ministry of Health of the State of Nuevo León requested that Jaime Rodríguez Calderón be transferred to the Metropolitan Hospital for medical attention, after conducting studies in which they detected that El Bronco suffers from grade I diverticulitis.

Doctors Juan Leonel Arizola (traumatologist), José Espinoza (proctologist surgeon), Alexandro Ulises Calderón (Specialty Coordinator) and Jesús Ángel González (security) attended Apodaca Prison No. 2 on Tuesday, March 22, where the former governor of Nuevo León is imprisoned, to carry out a medical evaluation.

According to Telediario, doctors recommended that Rodríguez Calderón undergo a “lumbar magnetic resonance imaging” and a “computed axial tomography of the abdomen” within the next 48 hours, in order to determine the degree of possible damage, so Dr. Ulises Calderón requested to transfer him to the Metropolitan Hospital, since that in that hospital they have the necessary equipment for analysis.

However, according to the medical opinion, El Bronco is not at risk and the team of doctors did not consider that conducting such a study was “urgent”, in addition to the possibility that the defense of Rodríguez Calderón argued that his health is at risk to request home rooting. At the moment, there is no estimated date for its possible transfer.

Last Tuesday, March 15, the Nuevo León Prosecutor's Office carried out the arrest of Rodríguez Calderón in the municipality of General Terán for the alleged diversion of resources during his campaign as a presidential candidate in the 2018 elections.

After his capture, in which the Office of the Specialized Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes also participated, El Bronco was transferred to Prison No. 2 in the municipality of Apodaca. It should be recalled that the 64-year-old politician received a criminal complaint in 2018 from the current governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, who accused him of using public resources to collect signatures that accredited his presidential candidacy.

Moments after his arrest, Samuel García commented that, after four years and four months, “we finally did it.” In addition, he added that “who paid it” and warned that his government will be responsible for sending to jail those who stole or diverted public resources.

This case was known as the “Broncofirmas”, after in May 2018 the National Electoral Institute (INE) detected an illegal financing scheme in which Rodríguez Calderón would have used about 12 million 800 thousand pesos to obtain the signatures needed for his approval as an independent candidate for the presidency of the Republic. For this reason, the INE approved a fine of 739 thousand pesos against El Bronco.

After his capture, on Saturday, March 19, the Nuevo León Prosecutor's Office seized 2 million pesos, as well as firearms and two safes owned by the former governor of that entity. The above as part of the search warrants that were requested from a Control Judge.

Subsequently, on Monday, March 21, the State Prosecutor's Office reported that the two safes that were seized on March 19 were reviewed. One was empty and in the other there were 4,500 pesos.

The next day, a judge from the Second District in Criminal Matters of Monterrey admitted an amparo for alleged “illegal deprivation of liberty”, so that the defense of Rodríguez Calderón will have three days to ratify it. Likewise, next Tuesday, March 29, the incidental hearing will be held in which it will be announced whether the final suspension is granted.
