Belgrade, 18 Mar Sara Gallego, Spanish record holder of 400 m hurdles and national champion of 400 smooth indoor courts, has been eliminated in the world championships with a record of 53.13 in the fourth series. With a personal mark of 52.82, achieved this year, the Barcelona-born had to deal with the tight corners of Calle 1 in the fourth series and came fifth, somewhat off the hook, to the free street. In the last turn she reduced the distance with the front package, but she could not avoid that same fifth place that left her eliminated. “I wanted to go down from 53 seconds, I had legs and I had trained well, but it didn't work out. That's it, now to look at the relay,” he said. Gallego followed the same fate as Manuel Guijarro, a debutant like her and eliminated in series, although Spain will be represented in the 400 semifinals by Bruno Hortelano, who spent in the repechage thanks to his record of 46.49. Only the top two places gave direct qualification to the semifinals, plus the two best times of repechage.
