UniAtlántico professor was removed from office for allegations of sexual harassment

The university decided to remove from office the professor in the area of calculation accused of committing sexual crimes with at least five students

Recently, there have been a significant number of public complaints of sexual harassment and abuse by students from different schools in the country. Social networks have helped women of different ages to tell their cases and disseminate information.

A case of alleged sexual harassment was recently heard within the Universidad del Atlántico. At least five students were reportedly victims of the professor in the area of calculus, Cristian Rojas, who was removed from his post.

According to local media outlet El Heraldo, the university took this decision with the aim of ensuring that all potential victims file their respective complaints with the appropriate authorities.

Although so far there seems to be no formal complaint against the teacher, Flor Ángela Borja, a spokeswoman for a women's movement of the UniAtlántico and representative of the victims, assured that the collective complaint will be made to the Attorney General's Office this Thursday.

Likewise, he assured that the teacher's modus operandi was to gain the trust of the students, ask them for their number, grab their hands and at some point take them to his car. Borja pointed out that this would have happened with the five students who reported the situation.

The UniAtlántico announced the opening of a preliminary inquiry

After the allegations of alleged sexual harassment inside the cloister were heard, the UniAtlántico announced a preliminary inquiry.

“The Universidad del Atlántico, with the aim of guaranteeing the exercise of rights and freedoms of members of the university community; reports that preliminary investigation has been opened ex officio by the Office of Internal and Disciplinary Control, in order to address the situation recently reported through social networks ”, the university reported in a statement.

Likewise, the UniAtlántico took the opportunity to emphasize that it rejects all kinds of violence or violations of women's rights.

In addition, the university highlighted that the institution has a protocol for dealing with gender violence with an emphasis on sexual violence, established by the Vice-Rector's Office for University Welfare and approved by Rectoral Resolution No. 003783 of October 12, 2019, through which accompaniment is provided to victims of this kind of facts.
