Madame Web enlarges its cast with another name that lately sounds very strong in the entertainment industry: Sydney Sweeney. The American-Canadian actress is known worldwide for playing Cassie Howard on Euphoria, the HBO television phenomenon that premiered its second season this year and generated very high ratings. Now, the young artist will act alongside Dakota Johnson in the Sony Pictures film about another Marvel spider character.
According to the US press, the star joined the cast in a role not yet known, since it has not been officially announced so far. This project, which will integrate the universe of Spider-Man into cinema, could focus on two characters who bore this title, Cassandra Webb or Julia Carpenter. The first is an elderly woman paralyzed by myasthenia gravis, a chronic disease that leads her to live connected to a large system of cobwebs to stay alive, while the second to bear the alias is also known as the successor to Spider-Woman.

S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones and The Defenders) was selected as the director of the film, after moving her Netflix contract to Disney+. The script will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the writing duo that gave rise to the upcoming premiere Morbius (starring Jared Leto). To date, it is unknown what the main plot will be, but it is clear that Johnson will give life to the protagonist.
Madame Web debuted on Marvel with number 210 of the comic book The Amazing Spider-Man, released in 1980. She is described as an elderly woman who has the ability to predict the future of Peter Parker and other characters with spider abilities. She has mentored other Spideys, especially the female versions. According to her original design, she has blindness and paralysis in her legs, so she lives connected to a machine that resembles a web of cobwebs and, for that reason, she is never seen actively participating in fighting situations.

Sony's first film starring a heroine
The film starring Dakota Johnson will be the first Sony Pictures title based on a comic book that will feature a woman as the protagonist, and is listed as one of the future attempts to expansion of the Spider-Man universe. After releasing the third installment with Tom Holland, the film company has in the oven some spinoffs born from this same narrative line such as Morbius, which will arrive this year, and Kraven, the Hunter, another of the productions in development. In 2021, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released on the big screen with the return of Tom Hardy to his role as Eddie Brock.

He still doesn't know when Madame Web will be released in theaters, but it is expected that filming will begin very soon and we will have more details about the character's debut in the live-action world.
