Former Brazilian footballers Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos, Spaniard Raúl Gonzalez and Italian Fabio Cannavaro entered the FIFA-endorsed International Football Hall of Fame in Pachuca (central Mexico) on Tuesday.

“I'm not a lot of words, I just had to play ball,” said Ronaldinho at the tenth investiture ceremony held in the history of the venue.

“I am very happy, even in my best dream did I imagine going through this one day, being next to so many legends. Thank you all”, finished off the Brazilian star world champion in 2002 and winner of the Golden Ball in 2005, when he played for FC Barcelona.

Roberto Carlos, also world champion in 2002, Cannavaro, world monarch in 2006, and Raúl, the three former Real Madrid players among other teams, did not attend the ceremony, but sent a message of thanks on video.

Three former footballers were chosen from the national level (Mexican football): Pablo Larios, goalkeeper of the Mexican national team at the 1986 World Cup (died in 2019), Brazilian Antonio Carlos Santos, virtuoso midfielder for America, and Oswaldo Sánchez, Mexico's goalkeeper at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cup goalkeeper.

Swedish technical director Pia Sundhage, who led the United States national team to win gold medals at the Beijing 2008 and London-2012 Olympic Games, and former Mexican striker Maribel Domínguez, were chosen for women's football.

In the category of deans, Brazilian Waldir Pereira 'Didí', world champion in 1958 and 1962, and Mexicans Jesús del Muro, world defender in 1958, 1962 and 1966, and Vicente Pereda, historic Toluca scorer, were selected.

Due to the pandemic, the vote for this tenth inauguration was held in November 2020, seven months after its original date, with the virtual participation of 105 journalists from 35 countries.

The investiture ceremony was originally supposed to take place in that same November 2020, but was postponed several times until March 15, 2022.

Since its establishment in 2011, 144 football personalities have been admitted to the International Football Hall of Fame, including the 12 members of this tenth ceremony.
