China adds 3,507 new local cases of covid, record number since 2020

Beijing, 15 Mar The Chinese National Health Commission today announced the detection of 3,602 new positives for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Monday, 3,507 of them for local infection in different parts of the country, notably those found in Jilin (northeast, 3,076), Shandong (east, 106) and Shaanxi (center, 53). The Asian country had not recorded so many new cases a day since the first months of the pandemic in 2020. The remaining 95 cases were found among travelers from abroad in places such as Guangzhou (southeast, 20), Guangxi (south, 17) or Shanghai (east, 12). Health authorities also today reported the detection of 1,768 asymptomatic cases, 1,647 for local contagion, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they manifest symptoms. The total number of such infections under observation is 8,650, of which 1,610 come from other territories. The National Health Commission also detailed that, until last midnight local (16.00 GMT on Monday), 149 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid. The total number of active infected persons in mainland China is 11,984, eight of whom are serious. According to the institution's accounts, since the beginning of the pandemic, 120,504 people were infected in the country, among whom 103,884 have managed to heal and 4,636 died. To date, 1,844,212 close contacts with infected persons have been monitored by medical follow-up, of which 184,281 remain under observation. CHIEF aa/fp
