On Saturday, Newcastle and Brentford were held to a 3-3 draw at St James' Park. Newcastle were looking for a victory after a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Brentford, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against Norwich City. After today's result, Newcastle and Brentford currently occupy 20th and 14th spots in the table, with 6 points and 13 points respectively after 12 matches.

The Magpies started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to Jamaal Lascelles finding the net in the 10th minute. However, their lead didn't last for long, Ivan Toney producing an equaliser in the 11th minute, bringing The Bees level. The momentum was now with Brentford, who then scored again through a goal from Rico Henry, 31 minutes in to establish a 2-1. However, their lead was short lived, as Joelinton equalised for Newcastle in the 39th minute, which saw the first half end 2-2.

Brentford took the initiative in the second half, with Jamaal Lascelles giving The Bees the lead, 61 minutes in. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Allan Saint-Maximin equalised for Newcastle in the 75th minute and seeing the game end 3-3.

For Newcastle, Ryan Fraser and Sean Longstaff, came on for Joseph Willock and Fabian Schar. Brentford brought on Frank Onyeka, Charlie Goode and Shandon Baptiste, to replace Saman Ghoddos, Mads Roerslev Rasmussen and Vitaly Janelt.

There were bookings for Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle. For Brentford, Saman Ghoddos and Christian Norgaard saw yellow.

Newcastle will next travel to Arsenal, while Brentford will face Everton at home.
