The latest Around the Rings Power Index for the 2020 Olympics is ahead.

Tokyo led the first two installments, published in March when the field was still five-deep and again in June once Baku and Doha were dropped.

Check back Tuesday to see if Istanbul or Madrid catches up now that bid books are public.

Australian Open

Tennis season gets interesting Monday in Melbourne with the start of the Australian Open.

Olympic champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams are among the favorites going in.

Play runs through Jan. 27.

Handball World Champs

The year’s first world championship for an Olympic sport?

It’s handball, it’s in Spain and it’s just for men.

Group play runs through Saturday in Granollers, Barcelona, Seville, Zaragoza, Madrid and Guadalajara with knockout rounds beginning Sunday. The final match will follow Jan. 27 in Barcelona.
