Torch Relay -- 14 Things to Know for the Week Ahead

1) On Monday, the Olympics flame arrives in the city of Makachkala. It is the largest city in the North Caucasus federal District and the capital of the Republic of Dagestan.

2) Over 190 torchbearers will run with the flame inMakachkala.

3)According to the AFP, a bombing at a restaurant inMakachkala took place on January 17. Dagestan is home to insurgents "who have threatened to strike" the 2014 Winter Olympics.

4) The torch relay journeys to Grozny on Tuesday, approximately 515 miles southeast of Sochi. Close to 85 torchbearers will carry the flame in Grozny, including Olympic weightlifter Apti Aukhadov and Russian boxer Arthur Beterbiev.

5) On Wednesday, the flame tours two cities: Magas and Nazran. According to Sochi 2014, Magas was the "only Russian city founded after the fall of the USSR."

6) Overall, around 40 torchbearers will run with the flame through Magas and Nazran. This past October, kickboxing champion Movsar Kodzoeva held a "master class" for young athletes in Nazran to celebrate the upcoming Sochi Games.

7) The torch relay heads to the city of Vladikavkaz on Thursday. Renown wrestlers such as Soslan Andiev, David Musulbes Arsen Fadzaev, and Teymuraz Dzgoev trained inVladikavkaz.

8) Close to 30 torchbearers, including Olympic wrestler Alan Khugaev, will carry the flame throughVladikavkaz.

9) On Thursday, the flame also tours Nalchik. Sochi 2014 says that Nalchik is a "remarkable football city."

10) Famous footballers and coaches born in Nalchik include Yury Krasnozhan, Vladimir Eshtrekov, Zaur Khapov, and Ruslan Nakhushev.

11) The torch relay travels to Mount Elbrus on Saturday. Mount Elbrus' peak is the highest in Russia and Europe, according to Sochi 2014.

12) The first documented ascent of the Mount Elbrus' western peak took place in 1874.

13) The flame journeys to Maykop on Monday.Maykopis approximately 161 miles from Sochi.

14) Olympic judoka Vladimir Nevzorov hails fromMaykop.
