Samsung to Optimize Sochi Olympics

TOP Sponsor Samsung is working with the IOC to make the Sochi Olympics the most wireless to date.

The "Samsung Smart Olympic Games" plan makes the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 an upgrade in the Wireless Olympic Works mobile application.

For the first time, all athletes participating in the Olympics will receive a GALAXY Note 3 phone to use, allowing athletes to document their Olympic experience wirelessly.

Samsung has also upgraded its Wireless Olympic Works application for Olympic staff during the games. Staff will provide up-to-the-minute data during the Games with better connectivity, optimizing Games operations.

For the second time, a public Wireless Olympic Works application will be available to download on the Android marketplace. The public app will deliver real-time news, statistics, schedules, and medal counts for Olympic fans worldwide.

Samsung has also recruited 80 Olympic hopefuls from 20 countries to comprise its GALAXY Team. The GALAXY Team will share its experiences as its athletes look to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Samsung has been a worldwide partner for the Olympics for the past 15 years.

Canada Extends Sochi Partnerships

The Globe and Mail and Samsung both announced partnerships with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian athletes.

The Globe and Mail extended its media partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee. Through Rio 2016, the Globe and Mail will be the official news media partner for the COC and the Canadian National Bobsleigh and Skeleton teams.

"The Globe and Mail’s Sochi coverage will be as deep as it is far-reaching, attracting millions of readers to the full spectrum of our print, online, and mobile platforms," said Phillip Crawley, publisher and CEO of The Globe and Mail.

Samsung announced it will partner with five Canadian athletes as part of its #BringItHome campaign.

Steven Stamkos and Hayley Wickenheiser, ice hockey; Greg Westlake, sledge hockey; and Marie-Eve Drolet and Michael Gilday, short track speed skating will comprise the Samsung Canadian GALAXY Team for the campaign.

The athletes will receive fan messages from the Notes to Home campaign in an effort to raise support throughout Canada for the Games.
