Aníbal Torres's version of Adolfo Hitler is false

The president of the Council of Ministers had said that the German dictator decided to build highways after seeing one in Italy on a visit to Benito Mussolini.

On Thursday, the president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, generated controversy and some indignation on social networks after to commend the dictator and genocidal Nazi Adolfo Hitler during his participation in the Decentralized Council of Ministers in Huancayo. However, the version of the PCM holder was not accurate as later argued by the conductor Fernando Carvallo, who has a postgraduate degree in History of Civilizations.

On one occasion Adolf Hitler visits northern Italy and (Benito) Mussolini shows him a motorway built from Milan. Hitler saw that, he went to his country and filled it with motorways, airports and made it the world's first economic power,” said Aníbal Torres in his version.

FALSE VERSION

The philosopher and radio host Fernando Carvallo criticized Aníbal Torres' version and explained that it is not accurate, since, as he pointed out, Konrad Adenauer, who was then mayor of Cologne (1917-1933), proposed the construction of several motorways.

He explained that Germany is one of the few European countries where there is a “rare consensus that you don't have to pay for the use of motorways.” He indicated that this type of route allowed the German union since 1870.

He pointed out that in Germany the right wing usually “rescues” the figure of Hitler, considering that he was the one who built motorways. However, he said that this is a prejudice that Aníbal Torres has been the victim of in his speech in Huancayo.

He stated that the anecdote between Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler as the beginning of highway construction is false.

The truth is that there had been a controversy during the Weimar Republic (1918-1933), that is to say that the defeated Germany arising from the 1919 treaty of Versailles impoverished and having to pay a war reparation (...). There is a debate in that country in the 1920s about whether or not the state should invest in roads because there were currents that maintained that roads were for use by the rich who were the ones who had cars at that time,” he said.

“But the initiative of the then celebrated mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer, who is the founder of Christian democracy, was adopted. Adenauer imposes the construction of a famous highway to link his city with Bonn, Germany's first motorway,” he added.

In addition, he noted that Adolf Hitler saw this model and reproduced it in order to prepare for war.
