Carlos Slim Helú is known as one of the richest men in Mexico, whose fortune amounts to USD 55,930 million, according to Forbes magazine's most recent listing.

He was born on January 28, 1940, who together with his wife Soumaya Domit Gemayel - who died in 1999 due to kidney problems - created Grupo Carso, with whom he has positioned himself as the wealthiest man in Mexico through the acquisition of several companies.

However, he is not only known for his social position, his taste for the arts, acquired by Soumaya, or for earning with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, but he is also a lover of Mexican food.

This can be seen reflected in his predilection for eating, even accompanied, in the branches of Sanborns, a chain of restaurants he owns, whether he consumes a coffee or a breakfast or a meal inside the restaurants.

Other favorite dishes by Carlos Slim include cochinita tacos, refried beans, basket tacos and tortillas.

Although it is also known that the owner of Telmex, which he obtained with the acquisition of the parastatal company Telefonos de México in the 1990s during the privatization process of former president Carlos Salinas de Gortari, enjoys preparing his own food, such as eggs with arabic bread.

But among other succulent dishes that are to the businessman's taste is pozole, which he eats in a place in the Guerrero neighborhood. It is said that there, Slim orders a white pozole with pork rinds with a shot of mezcal.

Likewise, he enjoys Lebanese dishes due to his ancestry from that country on the part of his father, who arrived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century and who instilled in him knowledge of saving and money management.

Perhaps that is why he came to drink espresso coffee in one of the most emblematic places in the city, Café Rio, which unfortunately closed its doors after more than 60 years, when he was evicted. There they served desserts of Lebanese origin.

Slim has stood out among other Mexican businessmen due to his apparent simplicity in terms of dealing and visiting other places, as well as keeping a low profile.

Recently, the owner of América Móvil and Grupo Carso, has also had a significant presence within the AMLO government.

Despite the cancellation of the New Mexico International Airport (NAIM), which caused some distance between the president and the businessman due to the contracts and investments that Slim had within the project, the deal came again in 2019 following the threats of former US President Donald Trump to stop the flow of migrants.

After several meetings, he has become one of the main entrepreneurs in the government of the self-described Fourth Transformation. Likewise, because of his wealth and presence in business, he was invited along with other businessmen to a lunch with the president.

Also, at the beginning of March, he called for the reconciliation of the business community with the government: “Confrontation is stupid. It hurts the country, it hurts the company, it hurts the government, we must work together.” Which was celebrated by the chief executive.
