GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — The Guatemalan government expelled 50 Cuban and two Honduran migrants from the country who were arrested while traveling on four boats off the Atlantic coast. According to the authorities, this is the first time that people have been arrested using this type of transport to migrate.
The detection of migrants, including six minors, was carried out on Monday night by the Army Navy, which through the Río Dulce Naval Station located the vessels carrying migrants with the intention of migrating to the United States, said on Tuesday in a message sent to journalists the Directorate of Migration. The authorities classified this way of migrating as “novel”, since it is the first time they have detected it.
Migration reported that the people were expelled to Honduran territory by the Corinth land border, as they would have arrived from that place and then boarded the boats. They did not have the required documentation to enter Guatemala.
Cuban citizens require a visa to enter this country.
