Santo Domingo, 15 Mar The Tigres del Licey announced on Tuesday José Offerman to continue leading the team, while the Aguilas Cibaeñas reported on the hiring of José Leger to take the reins of the ninth in the next season of the Dominican professional baseball championship. Offerman, with major league experience and who played for nine seasons with the Tigres, assumed the position of manager after the first 12 games of last tournament and helped the club reverse a bad start with a 4-8 record. From that moment on, the felines had a record of 17-11 to finish the regular round with a 21-19 mark and qualify for the semifinal round, although they fell short when it came to playing the crown, which was won by the Cibao Giants team. It will be the sixth time that Offerman is in charge of the capital team, which he has led to the title on a couple of occasions. He spent 15 years in the Major Leagues playing for seven teams, finishing his career with a batting average of .273. Leger, for his part, will replace the experienced Felix Fermin, who went on to occupy the position of “special advisor” to the general manager of the club Angel Ovales, who released the information today. The new foreman of the yellow squad has only as experience in that position in the Dominican league, a match he led as interim manager of the Leones del Escogido in the 2015-2016 season. “We understand that Leger is the right man for the manager position, because he brings with him a vast experience for a young man in baseball,” Ovalles said in a statement. He said that Leger, 39, has “a lot of experience” in the Dominican professional league and on the minor circuits of American baseball. The new leader eaglet started out in baseball as a professional baseball player within the Minnesota Twins organization, where he later became an assistant in the minor leagues. He began his career as a manager in organizing the New York Metros at the Class A level. In the Dominican Republic he has played several positions on the pitch for the Oriental Stars and Lions.
