Central defender Mats Humels, already recovered from covid-19, was declared on Tuesday fit to play for Borussia Dortmund again and could appear again in a Bundesliga match against Mainz, on Wednesday.

Marco Rose, coach of Dortmund, hopes that his defender will be present for the match, which was postponed earlier this month due to a covid outbreak in the Mainz team. “He has passed and passed all the medical tests. We'll see if he can play,” said the coach.

A win away from home would allow Dortmund, the current second place, to reduce the gap with Bayern Munich, the leader of the Bundesliga to four points.

However, Borussia continues to be unable to count on the Portuguese defender Raphael Guerreiro, who tested positive last week for coronavirus, nor his captain Marco Reus, he also goes down due to another disease that Rose has refused to reveal: “Reus is doing well, there are more diseases than covid”, the coach specified.

Dortmund's star attacker Erling Haaland and American midfielder Giovanni Reyna returned to play after their injuries last weekend, but Rose implied that neither of them would start in the match against Mainz. “Both of them have done well but we can see that training and playing are two different things, they will have progressively more playing time.”

Bayern Munich is on track for a tenth consecutive Bundesliga title, even if they still have to host Borussia Dortmund in Munich on 23 April.
