Former midfielder and Russia captain Sergei Semak has been named as an Ambassador for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. Semak was unveiled in this role on 26 November in Kazan ahead of the Official Draw of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 taking place in the city.
Semak is the only Russian football player who has won the national championship for three different clubs: CSKA Moscow, Rubin Kazan and Zenit Saint Petersburg, where he is currently part of the coaching set-up. Representing Russia is a great honour for me, and I know first-hand what it is to feel proud of your country and shoulder the expectations of anxious fans."
